In this set of videos, you will dive into Ableton's Collision software instrument, a unique physical modeling synthesizer that creates rich and complex sounds through the simulation of vibrating objects.

We'll start by learning the basics of how Collision works and how to create simple sounds. From there, you will move on to more advanced topics, such as adding realism using randomness and pitch variations to create dynamic and evolving sounds. Then, we'll run through a few sound design examples covering both realistic sounds as well as experimental sounds, which Collision excels at.

Lesson topics include:

  • Introduction to Collision
  • Creating the Core Sound
  • Sound Quality and the XY Controller
  • Adding More Variation to the Sound
  • Pitch Envelope and Velocity Response
  • Using Two Resonators: Creating a Percussion Sound
  • Sound Design Example: Glassy Bells
  • Sound Design Example: Plucked String
  • Sound Design Example: Ethereal Pad
